dc.description.abstract The aim of this study is to investigate the trade of precious stones in the Abbasid State during the third and fourth A. H. centuries the ninth and tenth A. D centuries. The study indicates that the Arab merchants were engaged in an active trade of precious stones since the pre-Islamic era and continued to develop it until it reached its peak during the third and fourth A. H. the ninth and tenth A. D centuries. Among the most important precious stones that Arab merchants sought after were ruby, diamond, pearl, coral, emerald, cornelian, turquoise, lapis lazuli, beryl and garnet. The study also shads light on the merchant activities and examines the prices of precious stones. The study concludes with the fact that the trade of precious stones was lucrative and precious stones were used extensively during the third and fourth A. H. centuries the ninth and tenth A. D centuries en_US
