Life Stress In Its Relation To Certain Psychosomatic Diseases: An Empirical Study for a sample of Hamad General Hospital patients in Qatar

Abstract

The study aims to reveal the relation between life stresses and certain dis¬eases of psychosomatics through an emperical study for a sample of H. G. H. patients in Qatar. The sample consists of two groups: 1 • Psychosomatic patients (40) group which is divided into these sub¬groups: — Diabetes subgroup (10). — Hypertension subgroup (10). — Colon subgroup (10). — Headache subgroup (10). Diagnosis was carried out by medical personnel and by life stress scale by the resesarcher. 2. Normal group (40) Analysis of variance was used to test the differences between the four subgroups of the psychosomatics. Results show that there were sig¬nificant differences (0.01 & 0.05 levels) in favour of psychosomatics in the effect of life stress. Diabetes subgroup was affected by physi¬cal, social, and emotional stresses. While Hypertension subgroup was effected by physical stresses, while colon wubgroup was effected by physical and emotional stresses.
