dc.description.abstract The increasing concern with the on going evaluation of the in-service teacher's performance undoubtedly helps in outlining the future of the educational system through presenting various views for renewing this system. The current study tries to evaluate the performance of a sample of in-service social studies teachers. In order to achieve the hypotheses of the study and achieve its goals, the researchers reviewed relevent literature and identifed the basic teaching competences and skills. The researchers designed a checklist for evaluating the performance of the sample in the light of 33 comptences and skills identified earlier distributed among four categories: lesson planning, lesson implementation, classroom management, teacher's personality traits. The sample consisted of 121 male and female teachers. The Statistical analysis known as t-Test was used to compare the means of scores obtained in each of the four categories. Resutis showed that there are statistically significant differences between the means of scores in all the categories in favour of the teachers graduating from the Faculty of Education at 0.01 level. Results also showed that there are statistically significant differences between means of scores in all the categories in favour of female teachers and no significant differences between means of scores in all the categories as for levels of experience. The study suggested some recommendations and topics for further research. en_US
