Abstract | The writers wish to thank the discussers for their interest in the paper. They also appreciate the discussers’ effort in measuring the fully softened shear strength of soil using different apparatuses. The discussers raised questions that are mainly related to (1) the rate of shear used to ensure having a drained condition in ring shear testing, (2) the selection of a constant value of 2.5° to convert the ring shear results to those yielded from the consolidated drained triaxial compression test, and (3) sample processing and its effects on the development and use of shear strength correlations. The following paragraphs answer these questions in detail. |
