| الوصف | QUs Environmental Club took part in Earth Hour 2010 at the institutions Football Stadium on March 27. The event which was being celebrated internationally, called for participants to turn off their lights for one hour from 8:30pm-9:30pm to remind people to conserve energy.
The event was a huge success. Students Omar Khalifa and Muzna Al-Habsi led the event which included over 60 male and female QU students (along with their family members).
Earth Hour started in 2007 in Australia and in 2008 became the biggest sustainability movement with more than 50 million people participating from 35 countries. Earth Hour 2009 is noted for being the worlds largest global climate change initiative when over 4000 cities in 88 countries officially switched off to pledge their support for the planet.
Earth Hour 2010 was a global call to action to every individual, every business and every community throughout the world. It was a call to stand up, to take responsibility, to get involved and lead the way towards a sustainable future. Iconic buildings and landmarks from Europe to Asia to the Americas stood in darkness. People across the world from all walks of life turned off their lights and joined together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common our planet. |
