Abstract | Cognitive radio (CR) is a promising technology based on spectrum sharing where the secondary unlicensed users can access the licensed frequency bands in the primary system without any modification to the devices, services and networks in the primary system. A Markov chain approach is used to analyze the spectrum sharing policies between primary users (PUs) and secondary users (SUs). The ergodic capacity of the SU is derived taking into account the blocking probability and forced termination probability. Numerical examples are presented to explore the impact of PU and SU' arrival rates on the blocking probability, forced termination and ergodic capacity. |
