Date pits activated carbon as an effective adsorbent for water treatment
الملخص
Water pollution is becoming increasingly evident throughout the last few decades due to several anthropogenic reasons. Mitigating the pollution effects has become a priority to conserve the already limited water resources and treat the polluted ones. Several physical and chemical techniques exist for wastewater treatment with varying efficiencies to treat a wide range of contaminants. Adsorption using activated carbon (AC) outstands as a versatile treatment technique that is applicable for a wide array of contaminants. Nonetheless, AC is considered to be less economically viable compared with other techniques, which hinders its commercial utilization. Waste materials have the potential to be converted to AC through relatively less costly preparation techniques. Date pits (DP) has been broadly investigated for the production of AC. In this chapter, emphasis is on DP availability, chemical composition, and AC preparation methods from DP. Further, AC-DP characteristics, contaminant removal efficiencies and adsorption mechanisms are described.
