Active Power Filter
Abstract
The proliferation of power electronics-based devices and equipment has significantly affected the power quality of the grid, which changes its sinusoidal nature through adding harmonic distortion. Power electronics applications have penetrated several venues in our life which increase the share of non-linear loads compared with linear loads, and hence degrades the power quality of the grid. Simultaneously, power electronics-based loads are sensitive to harmonic distortion. In order to cancel out or mitigate harmonics and their effects, active power filters, which will be discussed in this chapter, can be employed.

Memory footprint reduction for power-efficient realization of 2-D finite impulse response filters
Mohanty B.K.; Meher P.K.; Al-Maadeed, Somaya; Amira A. ( Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc. , 2014 , Article)We have analyzed memory footprint and combinational complexity to arrive at a systematic design strategy to derive area-delay-power-efficient architectures for two-dimensional (2-D) finite impulse response (FIR) filter. ... -
Time-frequency synthesis and filtering
Hlawatsch, F.; Matz, G.; Boashash, B.; Ouelha, S.; Stanković, S.; Hassanpour, H.... more authors ... less authors ( Elsevier Inc. , 2016 , Book chapter)This chapter presents methods and techniques to design time-varying linear systems such as filters with precise time-frequency (t,f) specifications; this capability can then allow one to model and predict accurately the ... -
Enhancing face recognition using Directional Filter Banks
Boukabou W.R.; Bouridane A.; Al-Maadeed, Somaya ( Elsevier Inc. , 2013 , Article)Face recognition is an increasingly important problem in biometric applications; consequently many recognition algorithms have been proposed during the last three decades. It is accepted that the use of a pre-processing ...
