    Abstract
© 2018 IEEE. In this paper, two main challenges, namely over voltage and raised fault current levels, in active distribution networks, are addressed. Voltage profile and raised fault current in normal and fault conditions, respectively, are investigated using MATLAB/Simulink platform through a standard IEEE distribution system test bed. The voltage profile with inverter-based distributed generation is examined throughout changing its integration sites in a conventional grid, addressing proper location of grid-integration of renewable energy sources. The raised fault current is simulated by introducing symmetrical fault in the distribution network with the presence of distributed generation system(s), and the increased level is controlled by employing a suitable Fault Current Limiter (FCL) device.
