    Abstract
This paper introduces a novel switched capacitor multilevel inverter (SCMLI) with common ground and voltage boosting capabilities. The proposed converter can produce nine levels and a voltage boosting of four times with a single dc source. For boosting the voltage, three self-balanced switched capacitors are used with ten switches and one diode. For controlling the output voltage, a level-shifted modulation technique is used. The operation of the proposed SCMLI and the design of capacitors for the proposed circuit is discussed in detail. The presence of common ground is useful for the elimination of leakage current, especially in renewable power applications. The proposed converter is compared with some other recently introduced converters in terms of voltage gain, the number of components used, and availability of common ground. For verifying the performance of the proposed circuit, the experimental results are presented in the paper. The total harmonic distortion (THD) is 12.1% and the experimental results closely agree with the simulation and theoretical studies. 2022 IEEE.
