Abstract

This study aimed to show the relationship between the Eriksonian psychoso¬cial Crises (EPC) and parental socialization styles during childhood for a sample of Qatari puplis. It also aimed to show the differences between the two sexes, and between the high and low achievers in the EPC. The sample consisted of 65 males and 50 females with age means of 14.70 & 14.21 yrs respectively. Two questionnaires were used to measure parental socialization styles and the EPC. Statistical results showed that there were significant and positive correlations between acceptance vs. rejection and three EPC, no significant correlations between control vs autonomy and any of the EPC except for trust vs. mistrust for males, and no significant correlation between firm control vs. lax control and any of the EPC. Results also showed no significant sex differences in the EPC, while there was a significant difference between high and low female achievers in trust vs.mistrust only.
