Abstract:

This research aims to study the relationship between depressions and self-esteem among male and female secondary students (first and third class), and to explain whether there are any significant differences between the means of depression and self-esteem degrees with respect to male and female variables. In addition' an attempt made to find out whether there are significant differences between first and third class students with respect to male and female groups.
The sample of the study is consisted of 390 students of whom 200 male and female students from the first level and 190 (both sexes) represent the third level. An abbreviated version of B.D. T' (A. Beck)' translated to Arabic by Fataim (1994); in addition, self-esteem measurement designed by the researcher was used. Validity and reliability of both tools were calculated...
Major results of the study revealed that there is negative significant correlation at (0, 01)' between means of depression and Self-esteem whether the data is analyzed by first class male and female students or by male and female students of the third class. Obvious differences were observed between the means of male and female students of the first and third level with respect To depression and Self-esteem. Female students are likely depressed and less self esteemed. |
