Area spectral efficiency of cooperative network with opportunistic relaying
الملخص
In this paper, we investigate the area spectral efficiency (ASE) in a three-node cooperative network with opportunistic relaying. On one hand, in conventional cellular network, ASE is defined to be the average data rate per unit bandwidth per unit area supported by a base station. On the other hand, in cooperative network, since there is no such a central base station, we redefine ASE to be the average data rate per unit bandwidth within a particular area, in which simultaneous transmissions are not allowed. In addition, to maximize the instantaneous capacity between the source and the destination, we apply a transmission mode selection criterion to determine whether the direct transmission or the multi-hop relay transmission is utilized. We derive the mathematical expression of ASE with the consideration of the relay node location and the impact of path-loss and fading effects. We show through selected numerical examples the effect of relay node position on the performance metric of ASE.

Partial relay selection in underlay cognitive networks with fixed gain relays
Hussain S.I.; Alouini M.-S.; Hasna , Mazen; Qaraqe K. ( IEEE , 2012 , Conference Paper)In a communication system with multiple cooperative relays, selecting the best relay utilizes the available spectrum more efficiently. However, selective relaying poses a different problem in underlay cognitive networks ... -
Performance analysis of best relay selection scheme for fixed gain cooperative networks in non-identical Nakagami-m channels
Hussain S.I.; Hasna , Mazen; Alouini M.-S. ( IEEE , 2010 , Conference Paper)Selecting the best relay among all the relays ready to cooperate saves system resources and utilizes the available bandwidth more efficiently compared to the regular all-relay cooperation. This scheme also achieves the ... -
On hierarchical network coding versus opportunistic user selection for two-way relay channels with asymmetric data rates
Zhang X.; Ghrayeb A.; Hasna , Mazen ( IEEE , 2013 , Article)We address in this paper the challenge of coping with asymmetric data rates in two-way relay channels. We consider a relay network comprising two sources and one relay. The sources communicate at different rates through ...
