الملخصClassical Homocystinuria (HCU) is a metabolic disorder characterized by disrupted methionine metabolism, resulting in elevated homocysteine levels and potential organ complications. Understanding treatment adherence's impact on metabolic control is crucial for managing HCU effectively. This study investigated adherence and its influence on metabolic control in Qatari HCU patients, using a clinical cross-sectional design with 39 participants. Key findings showed 38.5% achieved well-controlled homocysteine levels (below 100μmol/L), with a mean of 130.2 ± 71.8 μmol/L. A protein intake threshold of 0.8g/kg correlated with improved metabolic control. Regression analyses identified significant associations, with patient age (β = 7.12, p = 0.007) and caregiver nutrition knowledge (β = -10.41, p = 0.053) affecting homocysteine levels directly and inversely, respectively. This research offers insights into managing HCU in Qatar, emphasizing personalized dietary adherence for optimal metabolic control.
